The government recently said it would try to achieve major progress within five to six years in its effort to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), with the goal of gaining accession within 10 years.

 Can we really wait another 10 years? So far, 12 of the 21 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) members have decided to take part in what is expected to become the world's largest free trade area. Entering the TPP will allow Taiwan to emerge rapidly from the shadows of marginalization and offset the advantages enjoyed by South Korea following the signing of its FTA with the Untied States and the European Union. Furthermore, as the TPP is supposed to be open to all APEC members, Taiwan will be able to avoid the political hurdles it faces in bilateral FTA bids. But we are now treating this godsent opportunity as if it were a hot potato, saying 10 years of preparation is needed. The government explained that this is because the TPP will be a "high-quality, across-the-board" free trade pact that will grant zero-tariff status to most products traded within the regime. But a close look at the FTAs signed by Taiwan's major trade partners with other countries reveals that over 90 percent of product categories are covered by zero-tariff treatment. Under the U.S.-South Korea FTA, as high as 99 percent of American industrial products will enjoy zero-tariff access to Korea. Some have also mentioned the need to protect the domestic agricultural sector. But any FTAs leave open the possibility of excluding import-sensitive products. South Korea, for example, has successfully had rice, chilies and garlic excluded from the tariff reduction list in its FTA with the European Union. It seems our government is giving up without a fight. Most importantly, these problems are not unique to Taiwan. Countries such as Vietnam and Malaysia also have a need to protect their manufacturing sectors, but how come they do not need a 10-year buffer period? Let's further look at South Korea and Japan, whose agricultural sectors are structurally similar to Taiwan's. While Korea has completed its FTAs with the United States and the European Union, Japan has decided to join the TPP process. With the presidential and legislative polls approaching, both the ruling Kuomintang and opposition Democratic Progressive Party are reserved about the TPP. Whichever party comes to power in the future, however, it will not be able to ignore this "now or never" choice. At a time when other countries are moving forward at the speed of light, we cannot afford to wait for another 10 years. Apple also announced that will hold a memorial ceremony for Jobs in the headquarters Oct 19. The death certificate reveals that occupation of Jobs is the high tech entrepreneur and was interred without an autopsy Oct 7.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple stated in the inner memo for employee Oct 10, he will hold a memorial ceremony in the headquarters at 10 o’clock Oct 19.

While thumbing through a women's magazine on the subway, a young-ish Bostonian named Ally Darling (Anna Faris) happens on an article positing that 96 percent of women who have slept with 20 or more men will never marry. Ally was laid off from her job only moments before, but the heroine of What's Your Number? is far more rattled by the possibility that her number — at that time, 19 — will jeopardize her chances at marriage. Just imagine what Jane Austen would have done with this Sluts and Non-Sensibility scenario.

Directed by Mark Mylod, What's Your Number? is not much dumber than the average romantic comedy, but there is something sad and infuriating about it — like running into a high school friend who seemed destined for greatness and walking away realizing she just picked your pocket. There's always been something vulnerable about Faris, an ease of conveying innocence and decency, but she's also capable of very sly characterizations, like the unforgettable silly movie star in Lost in Translation. As with most scene stealers, she creates an urge for more of whatever she's doing. If she can make something as unpleasant as Observe and Report bearable for even two minutes, logic suggests someone should give her more starring roles with closer to 90 minutes on screen. That may still be true, but the 106 minutes of What's Your Number are not the right ones. Faris's timing is as good as ever, but having the gifted parodist play it straight for the most part — there's a fun bit with a fake British accent — seems like a waste of comic resources.

Taipei, Oct. 3 (CNA) Seven crew members remained missing Monday morning after a gravel ship ran aground off Keelung Harbor in northern Taiwan around midnight in stormy weather, according to the Coast Guard Administration (CGA). Three of the 14 other crew members from the Jui Hsing showed no signs of life when they were rescued, but the others were not seriously hurt, CGA officials said.


The missing crew members include the four Taiwanese nationals who were aboard the vessel, the officials said.

A 40-year-old Japanese who calls himself Zhong-zheng, who does not have a visa for Taiwan and lacks the funds to buy a ticket back to Japan, has been stranded in Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport for 19 days. Meanwhile he has started a blog titled ‘Stagnating in Lawless Taiwan’ in Japanese at https://blog.livedoor.jp/die_door/ to chronicle his experience in legal limbo. Left with only NT$28 and a handful of coins in foreign currency, he has been reduced to scrounging for packets of soy sauce which he admits are ‘pretty tasty, ’ even as he ponders the possibility of dying from starvation in the halls of the airport.

Although details surrounding the errant visitor’s travel itinerary are unknown, a taxi driver at the airport has confirmed that he does exist, and airport officials have obtained an image of him strolling around a terminal at the airport

很久沒打網誌了，真的不知道如何起頭。

昨天跟親戚在附近的小吃店吃完飯，晚上就去KTV唱歌，
自從大學畢業以後就沒去夜唱過了， 夜唱的過程中真的很high，
因為唱歌真的會放鬆心情，忘掉煩惱。
 我在裝食物的時候還遇到之前在大潤發的同事，
世界真的好小，原本我自己是沒有看到他， 被她叫住我才看到他，哈哈，
 小聊了一下才知道他是跟以前的同事出來玩的， 它們也跟我一樣，
是唱到早上六點。 唱到快六點時，說實在的我一點都不睏哩，
只不過我的喉嚨已經燒聲了， 講話都有困難，而且還會一直破音，
旁人聽起來應該會覺得很好笑吧。 回到家就趕緊補眠，
一覺睡到傍晚的四點多，差不多要吃晚餐了，星期日就這樣過去了....
