A 40-year-old Japanese who calls himself Zhong-zheng, who does not have a visa for Taiwan and lacks the funds to buy a ticket back to Japan, has been stranded in Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport for 19 days. Meanwhile he has started a blog titled ‘Stagnating in Lawless Taiwan’ in Japanese at http://blog.livedoor.jp/die_door/ to chronicle his experience in legal limbo. Left with only NT$28 and a handful of coins in foreign currency, he has been reduced to scrounging for packets of soy sauce which he admits are ‘pretty tasty, ’ even as he ponders the possibility of dying from starvation in the halls of the airport.

Although details surrounding the errant visitor’s travel itinerary are unknown, a taxi driver at the airport has confirmed that he does exist, and airport officials have obtained an image of him strolling around a terminal at the airport
